KTC Child & Family Services has a new quarterly newsletter that will be distributed every three months to the three First Nations.  The first issue came out in February 2012 and was very well received by the communities.  The next issue will be available in May 2012.

 

The newsletter is available at the band offices, health centres and post offices for Whitefish Lake, Woodland Cree and Loon River First Nation. Click here to view.

Community BBQ at Bearwalk 2009

November 5, 2011 

 

The BBQ at Bearwalk was a community supper that was held after the Domestic Violence workshops were held in all three communities.  It was a celebration after the completion of the workshops.  KTC Child & Family Services volunteered to hold the BBQ and cook the meal.  Participation was great with about 300 people attending both the supper and children’s and adult games.

2011 Traditional Culture Camp

KTC Child & Family Services held a Traditional Cultural Camp in conjunction with the University of Alberta and Health Canada in August 2009 and August 2011.

 

Youth from Whitefish, Loon River and Woodland attended a one day presentation at the Cadotte Lake School gymnasium on August 20th, 2009.  Youth were instructed on science projects such as lighting, human anatomy and static electricity.   In August 2011, they did much of the same presentations and also had additional discussions on careers in Health and various other areas.

Deputy Minister Visit

November 5, 2011 

 

The Deputy Minister of Children’s Services visited the KTC Child & Family Services office in Atikameg in July 2009.  This was celebrated by a wagon ride with the Board of Directors and a BBQ lunch.

Traditional Cultural Camp

August 18, 2014

 

KTC Child & Family Services held the annual Traditional Cultural Camp on August 11 – 15, 2014.  This year’s camp was for children aged 6 – 12 and it was held in the Loon River First Nation area.  This is the second year that KTC has held the camp for the younger aged children.  Previously, the age range was 13 – 17 year old youth and was that age group for several years.

 

Theoren Fleury - "Don't Quit Before The Miracle"

August 23, 2012 

 

KTC Child & Family Services was proud to present Theoren Fleury and his inspirational message in Cadotte Lake on August 23rd, 2012.  The presentation was primarily for the Youth of our three communities as well as any adults that chose to attend.  Theo shared his experiences both good and bad throughout his life; both in and out of the hockey community.  Theo signed his book as well as various items for community members after the presentation.
